Apple may be quietly preparing a major comfort upgrade for its mixed-reality headset, Apple Vision Pro. A recent backend code discovery flagged by MacRumors and reported by UploadVR includes references to a “Dual Knit Band.” This new strap design could offer users improved long-wear comfort, one of the most frequent complaints about the current model.
The Vision Pro currently ships with two strap options: the Solo Knit Band, which provides a snug, stretchy fit around the head, and the Dual Loop Band, which adds a top strap to better distribute the headset’s weight.
According to early findings, the new Dual Knit Band may blend these two approaches, combining the soft knit texture with a supportive dual-strap configuration. This could allow one strap to rest behind the head while another crosses over the top, stabilizing the weight more evenly.
This development aligns with earlier reports from Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, who has previously hinted at Apple exploring strap redesigns to ease user fatigue during extended use. These rumors also align with how Apple was looking to make the headsets user-friendly for longer-duration immersive films.
User feedback has consistently flagged the Vision Pro’s front-heavy design as a major comfort drawback. While the Solo Knit Band offers softness and flexibility, many users report neck strain after prolonged sessions. Meanwhile, the Dual Loop Band helps redistribute weight but lacks the premium knit comfort.
The Dual Knit Band could merge the tactile comfort of the knit strap with the balanced support of the dual loop design, giving Apple a middle-ground solution without increasing bulk.
The strap isn’t the only thing hiding in Apple’s code. Recent internal references also point to a new M5 chip, which may power the next-generation Vision Pro. Earlier rumors suggested an M4, but this updated silicon could deliver improved performance, energy efficiency, and perhaps enable a lighter, more efficient headset.
Paired with a redesigned strap, this could signal Apple’s intent to tackle both performance and ergonomics, two of the biggest concerns early adopters have raised.
While Apple hasn’t confirmed the Dual Knit Band yet, multiple signals point toward a comfort-focused evolution of its flagship mixed-reality headset.
And if the company’s history is any indicator, even a small hardware tweak could play a big role in making the Vision Pro more wearable, practical, and competitive.
