Apple is reportedly planning a major shake-up for the iPhone lineup as it approaches its 20th anniversary in 2027. According to industry insiders, the company is preparing a bold redesign and even a shift in its naming strategy to mark the milestone.
If Apple followed its usual sequence, the 2027 model would be called the iPhone 19. However, a senior researcher claims that Apple may skip a number and move straight to iPhone 20. The decision would mirror what Apple did in 2017 with the iPhone X, which celebrated the iPhone’s tenth anniversary and introduced one of its biggest design overhauls to date.
The upcoming iPhone 20 series could represent another defining moment for Apple’s flagship device. Early reports suggest that it will feature a bezel-less display and smooth, curved edges, making the phone appear like a single sheet of glass from the front. This would be the company’s most seamless design yet, blurring the line between hardware and display.
Interestingly, Apple may also skip the standard iPhone 18 in 2026. Instead, the company is expected to release Air and Pro variants, along with the much-rumored iPhone Fold. The following year, Apple is reportedly set to bring back the base model with the launch of the iPhone 20 and a budget-friendly iPhone 18e during the first half of 2027.
Later that fall, Apple is said to be preparing a major launch event for the iPhone 20 Pro, iPhone 20 Air, and Fold 2 models. If accurate, this strategy would position the iPhone 20 lineup as the centerpiece of Apple’s next-generation design era, just in time for its 20th anniversary.
