Apple is preparing to expand its MacBook lineup with several new models this year, including a new entry-level MacBook and updated MacBook Pros featuring the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. But according to a recent report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the most intriguing release could be the long-rumored touchscreen MacBook Pros expected in late 2026.
Sources familiar with Apple’s plans say the company will introduce 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros, internally known as K114 and K116. If true, these models will mark a major shift for Apple, which has historically resisted touchscreen laptops. Steve Jobs famously argued that “touch surfaces don’t want to be vertical,” a principle Apple has followed for years.
The new touchscreen MacBook Pros will reportedly include dedicated touch and pointer profiles. When the touch profile is activated, macOS will display additional menus and context-sensitive actions near the user’s touch points, enhancing interaction and productivity.
Both models are also expected to feature OLED displays, a feature long rumored for Apple laptops. In addition, the Dynamic Island, currently seen on iPhones, will make its way to MacBooks. The MacBook version will be smaller than the iPhone iteration and placed at the top center of the display in a punch-hole design.
With these upgrades, Apple seems ready to blend its laptop performance with touchscreen convenience, offering users a fresh approach to MacBook interaction. The combination of OLED, Dynamic Island, and touch-optimized macOS features could redefine what users expect from a MacBook.
