Fresh off its big win for Best Multiplayer at The Game Awards 2025, ARC Raiders is keeping the momentum going. Embark Studios has officially launched the highly anticipated “Winter Event” today, December 16. This update introduces a brutal new map condition, a collaborative community event, and plenty of free loot.
Since its launch on October 30, the game has maintained a strong player base through consistent updates. Now, the developers are raising the stakes again. Here is everything you need to know about surviving the chill and claiming your rewards.
Survive the Deadly “Cold Snap” in ARC Raiders
The most significant change in this update is the arrival of the “Cold Snap”. Freezing winds and snow have hit the maps, drastically changing how you play. First, the weather reduces your vision, making it harder to spot enemies. However, the real danger is the temperature itself.
Exposure to the cold causes frostbite. Embark warns that this condition is deadly and can “cut your Raider down in minutes” if you ignore it. Consequently, you must change your strategy. To survive, you need to seek shelter indoors often or find ways to heal continuously. This new mechanic effectively discourages camping outdoors or engaging in long, open-field gunfights. You must keep moving or stay inside to stay alive.
Flickering Flames Event & Free Rewards
Alongside the harsh weather, the new “Flickering Flames” community event begins today. Similar to the previous “Stella Montis” event, players must work together. The goal is to donate items related to light and heat. Additionally, you need to collect and donate a new resource called the Candleberry Bush.
Your efforts will not go unpaid. By donating these items, you earn Merits which you can redeem for a variety of prizes, including:
- Raider Tokens
- Rare utility items
- Weapons
- Cosmetics
Furthermore, the Winter Update adds a free “Raider Deck”. This allows you to unlock new resources and gear, such as the unique Goalie outfit. For those who enjoy the emergent, roleplay aspects of ARC Raiders, this deck also includes a playable Guitar. Much like the flute, this instrument lets you signal your intentions or simply start a band with fellow Raiders.
Expeditions & Store Updates
Beyond the event, there is more content to explore. The update opens the first ARC Raiders Expedition departure window and adds new quests to the game.
Finally, for players looking to spend some credits, the in-game store now features the new Misthorn armour set. Whether you are fighting off frostbite or strumming a tune in the snow, this update offers something for every Speranzan.
