Bank Al Habib To Shut Down Kenya Office Amid Global Restructuring

Bank Al Habib Kenya operations will officially end on May 15, 2025, after seven years of presence in the country. The decision, approved by the Central Bank of Kenya under the Banking Act (Cap. 488) and relevant prudential guidelines, marks Bank Al Habib’s continued efforts to restructure its international footprint.

Bank Al Habib Limited (BAHL) confirmed that the closure of its representative office in Nairobi follows a strategic review initiated by its board of directors. The Nairobi office had solely performed liaison and marketing activities without engaging in direct banking operations.

The exit from Kenya is part of Bank Al Habib’s global restructuring initiative aimed at consolidating its international operations and enhancing overall efficiency. Despite the move, Bank Al Habib continues to maintain its international presence in Bahrain, China, Türkiye, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and the Seychelles.

While Bank Al Habib Kenya’s exit has been finalized, the bank has yet to file an official disclosure on the main bourse regarding the development. No specific reasons for pulling out of Kenya have been outlined beyond the overarching restructuring strategy.
