EA is officially launching the highly anticipated midseason update for Battlefield 6 today. The massive update 1.4.2.0 delivers an epic Battlefield 6 x Top Gun collaboration. Furthermore, players get the fan-favorite Wake Island map, exciting game modes, and a week-long free trial.
Season 4 previously focused heavily on naval warfare. However, this new update gives players a thrilling reason to take to the skies. Here is a brief breakdown of everything dropping in the game today.
Take to the Skies with Battlefield 6 x Top Gun
Battlefield 6 is officially crossing over with the Top Gun franchise. Consequently, fans can now pilot two brand-new, two-seat fighter jets: the F/A-81F Super Spectre and the F-74A Seacat. These aircraft require seamless pilot and wingman coordination.
Moreover, the update introduces fully voiced Top Gun: Maverick cosmetic skins. You can now play using the likeness and voices of Miles Teller’s Rooster, Lewis Pullman’s Bob, and Charles Parnell’s Warlock. You can also deploy as the new CJTF Helix squad unit. Players can unlock these themed cosmetics by completing Event Challenges and earning a limited-time currency called Ace Medals.
Additionally, the crossover brings two action-packed game modes. “Top Gun: Carrier Strike” reimagines the classic Carrier Assault mode. Infantry, naval, and aviation squads must work together to breach and destroy the enemy aircraft carrier. Meanwhile, “Gauntlet: Fighter Sweep” offers a high-intensity, jets-only aerial combat experience inside the REDSEC mode.
Wake Island Returns & Map Expansions
This update is not just about the skies. The legendary Wake Island map finally returns to the franchise. Players will battle across its distinctive Pacific coastal terrain, utilizing offshore aircraft carriers and demolishing reinforced positions.
Furthermore, the massive Tsuru Reef map is getting even larger. Battlefield Studios expanded the environment to include playable aircraft carriers to support the new Carrier Strike mode.
Meanwhile, Battle Royale fans get a major update in REDSEC. The Fort Lyndon map now features the “USS Grant” Point of Interest (POI). This crashed aircraft carrier serves as a designated High-Value Zone. Therefore, squads dropping here will find significantly better loot than standard POIs.
New Arsenal & QoL Upgrades
You also need the right gear to dominate the battlefield. EA introduced the Interdictor to the Battle Pass. This extreme-distance sniper rifle allows skilled marksmen to eliminate pilots straight out of their cockpits.
Moreover, the developers added a new Airplane Control Assist feature. This setting makes flying much more approachable for beginners by automatically managing pitch, roll, and yaw. The UI also receives a helpful update. An ADS Dispersion Crosshair is now available to help players visually understand weapon bloom while aiming down sights. Additionally, Portal mode expands today with Custom Lobbies for Battle Royale Quads and Conquest.
Want to try all this new content? You are in luck. Battlefield 6 is completely free to play starting today, August 18, until August 25. Grab your squad and test out four maps and six game modes.
