The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has ordered all petrol pumps across the country to adopt the Raast QR code payment system, aiming to promote digital transactions at fuel stations.
According to a circular issued by the central bank, petrol pump owners across the country must implement the QR code-based payment system by January 31, 2027.
The deadline applies uniformly to all outlets, regardless of location or size. The circular also revised the fee structure for card-based fuel purchases.
The Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) on card transactions has been capped at Rs 1 per litre, while the interchange reimbursement fee has been set at a maximum of 20 paisa per litre.
The State Bank has directed petrol pump owners to ensure the Raast QR code system is fully operational and accessible to customers within the specified timeframe.
The move is part of a broader push to expand cashless payment infrastructure across the retail fuel sector.
