Cabinet Division Highlights Growing Cybersecurity Concerns in Wearable Tech Devices

ISLAMABAD: In light of the growing popularity of wearable smart gadgets, the Cabinet Division has issued cybersecurity advice expressing concern about the possible dangers that these devices could bring in sensitive areas.

Smartwatches and fitness trackers are examples of high-end products that incorporate cutting-edge technology; the warning warned that these devices could compromise your privacy by disclosing secret information.

Data breaches, hacks, and other security issues might result from wearing these devices at sensitive meetings, workspaces, and other areas.

The cybersecurity flaws in high-end wearable devices have been brought to light by multiple events across the country, as reported by the Cabinet Division. Long ago, there were major worries about illegal tracking when data from Fitbit users exposed the locations of hidden facilities.

Before allowing wearable devices in sensitive areas, the advice mandates a rigorous examination and auditing approach to mitigate these risks. All devices will have their data encryption standards and authentication processes thoroughly tested during the review.

Devices that do not comply with security standards will not be permitted until those vulnerabilities are fixed. Prior to using any wearable device in critical regions, explicit consent must be obtained.

In areas where sensitive meetings and operations take place, wearable devices would be forbidden. Approved devices would undergo extensive security checks, enable key features like GPS and Bluetooth deactivation, and receive additional upgrades.

Furthermore, these devices would have restricted network access unless stringent security measures like segmentation and encryption are implemented. All authorized devices must use multi-factor authentication (MFA).

Regular security audits will be carried out in accordance with the revised cybersecurity policies to guarantee conformity. Not following these rules might lead to serious security breaches, the Cabinet division stressed even more.

Businesses that deal with sensitive information will likely implement stringent regulations on the usage of wearable devices in order to prevent unauthorized access and data breaches.
