Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Confirms Aim Assist Buff Ahead of Season 1

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 players have asked, and Treyarch Studios has answered. The developer officially confirmed today that it intends to buff Aim Assist strength over range. This news comes just ahead of the shooter’s massive Season 1 update.

Aim Assist Gets a Boost

In the new “Dev Talk” video released today, Matt Scronce, the Design Director for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, addressed the community directly. Scronce stated that the studio is generally happy with the current state of Aim Assist. However, they plan to implement some “very nuanced changes” following player feedback from launch week.

Specifically, many players felt that Aim Assist was nonexistent when targeting enemies at a distance. Therefore, Treyarch will slightly increase Aim Assist strength over range. Hopefully, this adjustment will find the perfect sweet spot for long-range battles.

This follows a significant change made just before launch. Previously, Rotational Aim Assist activated automatically. Now, players must actively track targets with their right stick to trigger full Rotational Aim Assist. Scronce did not give a specific release date for the new buff but confirmed fans can expect it before Season 1 launches.

SMG Buffs & Weapon Balancing

The developer update also highlighted upcoming weapon changes. Treyarch has heard the feedback regarding Submachine Guns (SMGs) loud and clear. Scronce confirmed that the studio intends to buff all SMGs across the board. They are also looking at specific attachments that target recoil and range to improve performance.

Conversely, other weapon classes remain steady. Treyarch currently has no specific plans to nerf or buff Marksman Rifles, Sniper Rifles, or Shotguns. The team wants these weapons to remain present without becoming too dominant. However, they are actively monitoring internal data to ensure nothing becomes overpowered.

What Else is Coming in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7?

While players wait for the weapon tuning, fresh content is available right now. Treyarch Studios added Nuketown 2025 to Black Ops 7 earlier today. This update features the iconic map’s very own 24/7 playlist.

The developers faithfully remade the classic Black Ops 2 version of the map. It features slight aesthetic adjustments to fit the Black Ops 7 theme. Nuketown now joins other remastered favourites like Raid, Hijacked, and Express.

The first post-launch Dev Talk covered a lot of ground. Beyond aiming and maps, the studio discussed several other upcoming tweaks:

  • Spawn tuning
  • Equipment buffs
  • Drone Pod nerfs
  • Mini-Map range increases
  • Zombies boss fight nerfs

Currently, Season 1 does not have a confirmed release date. However, speculation points to a launch in early December. Stay tuned to TechJuice for more updates on the exact rollout.
