Capcom Explains Simultaneous Launch of Three Resident Evil Titles on Nintendo Switch 2

Capcom has at last answered the most pressing question Resident Evil fans had for some time. They revealed why they are planning to bring Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, Resident Evil Village, and Resident Evil Requiem on Nintendo Switch 2 on the same day.

The strategy, according to producer Masato Kumazawa, is aimed at welcoming newcomers into the franchise by giving them a full trilogy experience, or the option to jump straight into the newest entry.

Capcom’s Unified Launch Strategy

During a recent Nintendo Direct, Capcom announced that all three games would arrive on Switch 2 at once. When asked about this bold move in an interview with New Game Network, Kumazawa explained that bundling the titles helps reduce friction for players unsure of where to begin. For those new to Resident Evil, they can start with RE7, progress to Village, and finish with Requiem, or pick their starting point freely.

This approach also aligns with how Capcom approached development on the new hardware. The team tested Village early on as a prototyping benchmark. Seeing how smoothly that port process worked, they then moved on to port Requiem and RE7. Kumazawa said they were pleasantly surprised by how well the games ran on the new system.

The publisher’s internal assessment of performance was reinforced by real testing: Kumazawa told VGC that once they got hands on Switch 2 hardware, porting existing development versions of the games was surprisingly smooth.

This flexibility enhances accessibility for newcomers while keeping the experience cohesive for returning fans.
