Careem to collaborate with PM’s youth program to create jobs in Pakistan

The uber-popular ride-hailing service, Careem has decided to collaborate with Prime Miniter Imran Khan’s Youth program to expand Careem’s employment services to the majority of youth.

A meeting was held between the senior Careem management and members of PTI management. The meeting included Muhammad Usman Dar, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Youth Affairs and Junaid Iqbal, the Managing Director Careem Pakistan. PTI’s twitter panel notified about the collaboration.

“Muhammad Usman Dar, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Youth Affairs held a meeting with Mr. Junaid Iqbal, Managing Director Careem Networks Pakistan to explore the possibility of mutual cooperation for creating employment opportunities for youth in online market place,” the tweet read.

The meeting between the two parties explored all the possibilities of mutual cooperation that would potentially uplift the social and economic status of the youth. This goes in line with the current government’s plan of creating a digital economy that can add a lot of support and prove to be the backbone to the country’s economy.

Muhammad Usman Dar, special assistant on youth affair on this occasion lauded Careem’s effort for not only providing affordable and quality transportation services but also playing a positive role in the country’s development.

A collaboration such as this holds the key for Pakistan’s digital economy, however, an ecosystem must also be set-up by the government which can nurture and develop the technical skill-set of Pakistan’s youth. Lars Anthonisen, Head of Large Customer Marketing, South Asia Google wrote that Pakistan is emerging as a key digital-first country with the fifth largest population with an increasing number of entrepreneurs.

If the government can prioritize transformation of the digital landscape by encouraging and supporting such collaborations with multi-national companies and, subsequently, develops an entrepreneurial-friendly ecosystem according to the recommendations which have been put forward by OCCI, then Pakistan can witness a definitive upward trend in its digital economy, which will ultimately help the country’s economy.
