The Pakistan Software Houses Association for IT & ITES (P@SHA) held its 11th annual P@SHA ICT Awards 2014 at a magnificent event on November 15, 2014 at Movenpick Hotel, Karachi.
The P@SHA ICT Awards was attended by prominent personages from the Pakistan ICT sector and representatives from foreign missions, government, academia and the business sector. The grand gala event praised and recognized the innovative achievers from Pakistan’s ICT sector.
P@SHA has been recognizing the achievements of local Pakistani innovators for a decade now. This year the awards were aimed to appreciate the software and service application developing companies of Pakistan. P@SHA has ensured that these companies gain national and international exposure through promotional activities.
The main objective of these awards is to encourage innovation, provide international representation, bring networking opportunities and inform the potential investors about the present-day technological developments in Pakistan.
Jehan Ara, President of P@SHA, shared her experience for this year event, saying, “As always we received an overwhelming number of amazing entries this year as well. It is so exciting to see such brilliant work being done in the country. However, this year we are pleased to have innovators from Peshawar join the list of winners from Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad highlighting the amazing pool of talent from all corners of Pakistan.”
“More young people are creating really innovative solutions for the world market and are managing to attract investment for their ventures,” she added.
Chairman P@SHA, Dr. Shoab A. Khan, believed that the emphasis on research and innovation is extraordinary and will build Pakistan as a source of technology and creativity.
“The public and private sector institutions need to join hands to ensure that this specialized field benefits Pakistan through the creation of high value jobs and efficiency of government and business processes,” he said.
The judges’ panel consisted experts from Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad who had a tough time as they judged brilliant software products and service offering from Pakistan.
This year the P@SHA ICT Awards announced 49 exceptional entries as the best innovators in the 17 product and 15 service categories.
The winners from the product categories of the P@SHA ICT Awards 2014 will be part of the P@SHA delegation from Pakistan that will compete at the APICTA (Asia Pacific ICT Awards) in Jakarta, Indonesia against 17 IT economies including Australia, Brunei, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Korea, Macau, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Taiwan and Vietnam.
The potential investors from the IT community appreciated both the P@SHA ICT Awards 2014 event and the conference giving suggestion to accelerate development of policies that can enable the growth of the ICT sector. They also emphasized the urgent need of grooming the talent to enable companies to scale and explore the changing export landscape.
