Despite expectations of relief at the fuel pump, petrol prices will remain unchanged due to continued uncertainty in global oil markets, sources have confirmed.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif separately approved a diesel price cut of Rs32.12 per litre, reducing the rate from Rs385.54 down to Rs353.43 per litre.
The Prime Minister’s Office stated that the full impact of the diesel price reduction will be passed on to the public in the near future.
Earlier this year, petrol prices rose by 43 percent and high-speed diesel climbed 55 percent, prompting the introduction of a targeted government fuel subsidy programme.
The government later reversed those fuel hikes, cutting the petroleum levy by Rs80 per litre, which brought petrol prices down to Rs378 per litre.
Further reductions of Rs12 per litre on petrol and Rs135 per litre on diesel were also announced by the government in the most recent review.
