Customs Seize Marijuana Worth Rs. 67.5 Million From Tea Shipment
The Air Cargo Control Unit (ACCU) of the Customs Collectorate Airports Karachi has intercepted a major drug smuggling attempt. Officials seized 2.19 kilograms of marijuana worth Rs. 67.5 million, hidden inside a parcel deceptively labelled as “Thai Red Tea”.
According to customs officials, the parcel originated from Thailand and was sent through international mail. The marijuana was packed in tin cans, disguised as tea packaging. The seizure was made during a routine inspection, underscoring the customs department’s continuous vigilance against illegal trafficking.
Growing Trend of Smuggling Through E-Commerce
Authorities warned that narcotics trafficking through e-commerce and mail channels is on the rise. Smugglers are increasingly using deceptive packaging and trade routes to move illegal substances undetected.
An official statement stated that the surge in global e-commerce has greatly increased cross-border trade. Through constant vigilance and effective interception, Pakistan Customs continues to safeguard our communities from harm.
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) reaffirmed its commitment to strict vigilance against narcotics smuggling, including through international mail.
Linked Enforcement Operations by Customs
The development follows a series of coordinated operations under the Chief Collectorate of Customs (Enforcement), Islamabad. A day earlier, enforcement teams in Quetta, Karachi, and Gadani successfully intercepted smuggled silver and vehicles used for illegal transport.
According to an official statement, the tentative value of those seizures stood at Rs. 26.76 million. The goods and vehicles have been taken into custody, and further investigation is underway.
With combined seizures exceeding Rs. 94 million in two days, customs authorities continue to tighten controls on smuggling through air cargo and trade routes.
