A recent job listing from CD Projekt Red just leaked a massive detail about the highly anticipated Cyberpunk 2077 sequel. The developer is actively looking to integrate multiplayer or co-op gameplay into Cyberpunk 2. Both critics and players praised the original game for its deep, immersive solo experience. However, this new career posting indicates a major shift in priority for the upcoming title.
Cyberpunk 2 to Revive a Scrapped Multiplayer Concept
CD Projekt Red is currently hiring a “Lead Quest Programmer” for Cyberpunk 2. The official role description focuses on designing complex, narrative-driven experiences. Furthermore, it demands expertise in cinematic and core gameplay features. Interestingly, the listing includes a very specific request in its qualifications section. The studio wants a developer with an understanding of multiplayer network architecture and client-server synchronization for game state and quests.
This requirement strongly suggests that multiplayer is coming to the sequel. Consequently, this move revives a feature originally planned for Cyberpunk 2077. The studio ultimately scrapped that multiplayer mode due to the game’s troubled launch. Now, fans might finally get the collaborative gameplay experience they missed out on.
Expanding the Development Team & Current Updates
Development on the sequel is steadily ramping up. As of July 2026, roughly 180 developers are actively building the new game. Moreover, CD Projekt Red has officially hired community mod developers onto the core team. This strategic move aims to integrate fresh ideas and build directly upon audience feedback.
Despite the new multiplayer network requirements, the development team remains fully committed to crafting story-driven quests. They are not abandoning the cinematic narrative core that made the first game popular.
Some players hope for a surprise reveal at The Game Awards 2026. However, the game remains in early development, making an imminent announcement highly speculative and unlikely. Audiences will need to remain patient for official news. Fortunately, the studio just released Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5 to keep players engaged right now. Additionally, fans can look forward to the upcoming launch of a Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Lucy statuette.
