Cyberpunk 2077 players have a massive reason to return to Night City. Recently, a development team officially revealed a groundbreaking PC mod for Cyberpunk 2077 called ‘NightCoop’. Currently, CD Projekt Red has shifted its focus toward the upcoming Cyberpunk 2. In fact, their last major content drop was the Phantom Liberty expansion in 2023. Furthermore, the last major patch (2.3.1) launched back in November 2025. Consequently, official updates have dried up, apart from a purely visual PS5 Pro update in April 2026.
However, fan-made projects are keeping the game alive. This new multiplayer mod arrives at the perfect time, especially since Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 hits Netflix this week.
Explore Night City with 8 Players: Shared Combat & Friendly Fire
NightCoop completely transforms the solitary sci-fi RPG into a multiplayer experience. Players can join a single, shared world with up to eight people simultaneously. Everyone plays as their own custom version of the protagonist, V. Therefore, you cannot step into the shoes of existing characters like Johnny Silverhand or Jackie Welles. Instead, you get to build a diverse party with different clothing styles and unique skill trees. Additionally, the mod features a party voting system. This means your entire squad gets to decide the outcome of dialogue choices throughout the story.

The mod developers built a seamless, real-time combat system. During shootouts, every player targets the same enemies and dodges the same bullets. Naturally, eight players could make the game entirely too easy. To fix this, NightCoop introduces optional difficulty buffs. Instead of lazily turning enemies into bullet sponges with massive health bars, the mod upgrades enemy AI. As a result, enemies will use grenades and block attacks to challenge your squad.
Moreover, the mod includes a toggle for Player versus Player (PvP) combat. If you turn this on, you can fight your friends. Fortunately, a PvP defeat does not ruin your game. Killed players simply enter a “downed” state and wait for a revive. Thus, you never lose progress or break the world state.
When Can You Play the Cyberpunk 2077 NightCoop Mod?
Currently, the NightCoop developers do not have an official release date for the full version. However, they are actively conducting closed testing for the game’s prologue and Act 1. Eventually, the creators plan to support the entire Cyberpunk 2077 campaign. Keep an eye on this PC mod as it gets closer to a full launch in the near future.
