E-Challan System Officially Launched in Gujranwala to Enhance Road Safety

The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has expanded its digital traffic enforcement initiative by officially launching the e-challan system in Gujranwala, marking another major step toward smarter and safer road management across Punjab.

The PSCA’s e-challan program was first introduced in major cities like Lahore, Faisalabad, and Multan to promote road discipline through automated surveillance. The system uses high-tech cameras and digital monitoring to identify violations and issue electronic challans directly to vehicle owners.

According to PSCA officials, over 1,066 HD cameras have been installed across Gujranwala to monitor traffic in real-time. The system detects violations such as driving without helmets or seatbelts, using illegal number plates, and signal breaking. Each violation triggers an automatic challan, sent to offenders via SMS alerts.

A PSCA spokesperson highlighted,

“These cameras were already assisting law enforcement in tracking criminal activities  now they will also help ensure road safety and compliance with traffic rules.”

SP Safe City Authority Gujranwala, Irfan Salhriya, confirmed that the system had undergone a two-month testing phase to resolve technical glitches.

“From today, e-challans are being issued, and violations are monitored 24/7,” he stated, adding that manual ticketing will continue alongside automated enforcement.

Officials warned that drivers who fail to pay fines on time may face doubled penalties or legal action, urging citizens to follow traffic laws responsibly. “The cameras won’t miss anything,” SP Salhriya emphasized.

The e-challan rollout in Gujranwala marks another milestone in Punjab’s smart governance drive, aiming to reduce accidents, streamline enforcement, and encourage safer driving habits through technology-driven monitoring.
