The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet on Monday approved a supplementary grant of Rs6.6 billion for the purchase of 30 bulletproof vehicles ahead of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit.
It is worth noting that Pakistan is all set to host the summit in September 2027.
The Cabinet Division had requested Rs12.6 billion to buy more than 50 bulletproof vehicles for the movement of visiting heads of state during the summit.
After reviewing the proposal, the ECC, chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, scaled it down to Rs6.6 billion for 30 vehicles. It directed the Cabinet Division to carry out a detailed needs assessment and return with any additional requirement at a later stage.
