Lahore: Authorities in Punjab have flagged eight commonly used medicines, including those for diarrhea and stomach infections, as substandard following a regulatory inspection by the Chief Drug Controller. The affected medicine samples are the product of major pharmaceutical corporations, which raises significant concerns about public health and safety.
Medical facilities in Pakistan were instructed to discontinue the sale of specific pharmaceutical medications, according to reliable sources. Drug inspectors were instructed to seize the pharmaceutical stock that is presently available in order to prevent its continued circulation.
Flagyl has been identified by medical authorities as one of numerous substandard medications. This antibiotic and antiprotozoal drug is widely used in the medical field. Tramadol injections and Metronidazole injections have been deemed unsuitable for patient use by medical professionals.
All authorities were directed by the Chief Drug Controller to immediately withdraw these medications, and the directive was to be rigorously enforced.
The Punjab Health Department implemented a ban on nine substandard syrups manufactured by Alpharma and Zed Laboratories, as well as Texcol Pharmaceuticals and Virol Pharmaceuticals, last year. The ban was in place until officials identified hazardous ethanol in the drugs. The market removed these syrups because they posed dangers to health although they treated allergies and cough as well as nausea.
