Fable Reboot Gameplay Revealed! Confirmed for PS5 & Xbox This Autumn

Published by

The long wait is over. Playground Games officially showcased an extended look at the Fable reboot during the latest Xbox Developer Direct. The studio confirmed an Autumn 2026 release window. Surprisingly, the developer announced the game will launch on PlayStation 5 alongside Xbox Series X/S and PC.

Fable: A Fresh Take on Albion

The 15-minute deep-dive revealed a massive evolution for the franchise. You will create a custom character to start your journey. However, the developers revamped the series’ iconic morality system. It no longer relies on a binary “good or evil” meter. Instead, you gain specific traits based on your actions.

The “living population” of NPCs reacts to these traits dynamically. For example, if you buy property and increase your wealth, you might earn a sour reputation among commoners. Furthermore, the social simulation remains a core pillar. You can work jobs, become a landlord, date, marry, and raise children. These choices impact the world of Albion.

Fans will also recognise familiar locations. “Bowerstone” returns as the capital city. Additionally, the developers confirmed the appearance of “Bloodstone” in the north of the open world.

Combat & Release Competition

The showcase provided the first proper look at third-person combat. The gameplay resembles The Witcher 3. You must dodge, parry, and strike enemies to trigger flashy finishers. Moreover, you can seamlessly swap between melee, ranged, and magic attacks. The spell system appears to draw inspiration from Hogwarts Legacy.

The Autumn 2026 release window places Fable in a crowded season. “Autumn” usually translates to September through November. Therefore, Fable may compete directly with Phantom Blade Zero in September and Grand Theft Auto VI on November 19.

More News from Xbox Developer Direct

Playground Games opened the event with another major announcement. Forza Horizon 6 arrives on PC and Xbox Series X/S on May 19, 2026. A PS5 version will follow later in the year.

Other studios shared the spotlight as well. Pokémon developer Game Freak showed gameplay for Beast of Reincarnation, confirming a Summer 2026 window. Finally, Double Fine revealed their secret project, Kiln. This creative multiplayer game launches in Spring 2026.
