Pakistan Railways has completed significant upgrades at two major stations in Punjab Faisalabad and Gujranwala as part of its ongoing modernization drive. Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi inaugurated the newly renovated Faisalabad Railway Station, while Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced the restoration of Gujranwala’s historic 144-year-old station building.
The railway sector in Pakistan has long faced infrastructure challenges, including outdated facilities and inefficient operations. The current government has prioritized rehabilitation and modernization to improve passenger comfort and revive the railway’s role in national connectivity.
During the inauguration ceremony, Minister Abbasi said that Faisalabad station’s new waiting lounge can now accommodate over 500 passengers, adding that the local business community played a key role in funding and supporting the renovation.
He also confirmed that Rawalpindi Railway Station will be inaugurated soon, as part of broader efforts to upgrade major railway lines and improve passenger facilities.
“We are committed to reviving Pakistan Railways with modern infrastructure, technology, and service standards,” Abbasi remarked.
The minister revealed that free Wi-Fi services have been activated at five major stations Faisalabad, Lahore, Multan, Karachi, and Rawalpindi. Moreover, a 500-kilometer section of the Karachi Rohri track is under upgradation to enhance travel safety and speed.
In a related development, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz inaugurated the restoration of Gujranwala’s 144-year-old railway station, now named Adabi Bethak. The revamped site features a Reading Corner and a modern cafeteria inspired by Lahore’s iconic Pak Tea House, offering locals a new cultural and intellectual hub.
Experts believe these developments will not only improve travel comfort but also boost tourism, heritage preservation, and local economies.
