The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested a suspect for allegedly defrauding a citizen of more than Rs1.2 million on the pretext of arranging a Polish work visa.
According to media reports, the Anti-Human Trafficking Circle of the FIA in Rawalpindi carried out the arrest. The suspect has been identified as Wajahat Haider.
According to the FIA, Haider allegedly received Rs1.202 million from the victim after promising to arrange a work visa for Poland. The agency has recovered Rs115,000 from him so far, while efforts are under way to recover the remaining Rs1.087 million.
The FIA said the role of other individuals allegedly involved in the case will be determined during the investigation, which is being led by FIA Inspector Waheed Khan.
The FIA Islamabad Zone said it remains committed to taking legal action against those involved in human trafficking and visa fraud and bringing them to justice.
Earlier this week, FIA Anti-Human Trafficking Circle arrested a travel agent in Hyderabad accused of defrauding a citizen of Rs480,000 with a false promise of a Saudi Arabia employment visa.
The suspect, identified as Shahmeer, allegedly took the money from Aftab Ismail on the pretext of securing him a driver’s job in Saudi Arabia, the FIA said.
Instead of an employment visa, the suspect allegedly sent the complainant to Saudi Arabia on a visit visa. Upon arrival, Ismail was assigned manual labour rather than the promised driving job.
The agency said the suspect has returned Rs275,000 to the complainant, while Rs205,000 remains unpaid.
A case has been registered against the travel agent under the Immigration Ordinance. The FIA is investigating the alleged fraud and the circumstances surrounding the issuance of the visit visa.
