The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has extended the deadline for taxpayers filing manual income tax returns until November 30, 2025, providing additional time for those who have not yet shifted to the digital filing system.
In a notification issued on Wednesday, the FBR said the extension aims to ensure a smooth transition as the tax body moves toward full digitization of its filing system. Although the use of manual forms is being phased out, the board acknowledged that a small number of taxpayers still rely on them.
To facilitate this group, the FBR has set up dedicated support cells in all regional tax offices, offering free legal and technical assistance to manual filers.
The notification added,
“Even if taxpayers require legal help, FBR field offices will provide the service of a lawyer free of cost this year.”
The extension, granted under Section 214A of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, is intended to ensure the completion of all pending manual filings.
The move comes shortly after the FBR reported a record 5.9 million returns filed for the tax year 2025, reflecting a 17.6% increase from the previous year. Out of these, 3.6 million taxpayers submitted returns along with tax payments up 18.6% compared to 2024 signaling improved tax compliance nationwide.
This decision underscores the FBR’s push toward a fully digital tax ecosystem while accommodating those still adapting to the change.
