FBR Forms New Committee for Granting and Cancelling Sales Tax Licences

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has reconstituted its committee responsible for evaluating applications for the grant and cancellation of licences for Sales Tax integration under the Sales Tax Rules, 2006. The move comes through a fresh notification issued on Monday, superseding the previous one from June 16, 2025.

The FBR, leveraging powers under the Sales Tax Act, 1990, the Sales Tax Rules, 2006, and the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, has tasked this newly formed committee with scrutinizing documents, assessing eligibility for new registrations, handling complaints, and preparing requests for proposals (RFPs) under the updated rules.

The committee will be chaired by Zain-ul-Abidin Sahi, Director General (IT & DT), with other members including Arshad Nawaz Chheena, Aamar Javed, Ali Abbas, Abid Naeem, and Mehboob-ur-Rehman. Their combined mandate ensures transparency and efficiency in the licensing process for registered taxpayers.

“The reconstitution of this committee strengthens FBR’s regulatory framework and ensures that licences for Sales Tax integration are granted and canceled with due diligence,” the FBR stated in its notification.

The new structure aims to streamline processes for businesses and improve compliance with sales tax regulations, reflecting FBR’s ongoing efforts to enhance tax administration in Pakistan.
