The upcoming federal budget for the 2026‑27 fiscal year will not be presented on 5 June, with new dates under consideration for 8 or 12 June.
Budget negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), including discussions on the Public Sector Development Programme, remain ongoing, prompting changes to the presentation schedule.
Sources confirmed that the National Economic Council meeting, originally planned under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, has also been postponed.
The meeting was expected to approve federal and provincial development budgets.
The council session was set to include participation from the four provincial chief ministers, finance ministers, and the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
On the directive of Prime Minister, an additional Rs200 billion is being incorporated into the PSDP. The IMF will be informed of this adjustment, which will be managed through various financial measures.
The National Economic Council is expected to review a Rs4,715 billion development budget. The federal allocation is projected at Rs1,326 billion, compared to the earlier figure of Rs1,126 billion.
Provincial allocations are also planned, with Rs3,138 billion distributed among the provinces. Punjab’s development budget is expected at Rs1,450 billion, Sindh at Rs816 billion, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at Rs564 billion, and Balochistan at Rs308 billion.
