The federal government has increased the value of Diyat for the financial year 2026-27 by nearly 97 percent, raising it to Rs19.352 million from Rs9.829 million last year due to a significant increase in the market price of silver.
The Finance Division, through an official notification, fixed the new Diyat amount at Rs19,352,390 under sub-section (2) of Section 323 of the Pakistan Penal Code (Act XLV of 1860).
The revised amount reflects an increase of Rs9,523,720, or approximately 96.9 percent, compared with the Diyat value of Rs9,828,670 announced for the previous financial year.
According to the notification, the new amount is equivalent to the value of 30,630 grams of silver, which serves as the statutory benchmark for calculating Diyat under sub-section (1) of Section 323 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
Under Pakistan’s legal framework, Diyat refers to the financial compensation paid to the legal heirs of a deceased person in cases where settlement is allowed under the law. The amount is revised annually by the federal government based on prevailing silver prices.
The Finance Division stated that the revised Diyat value will remain applicable throughout the financial year 2026-27 for matters covered under Section 323 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
