Pakistan’s Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has reiterated the government’s push toward a cashless economy during a meeting with Mastercard officials on the sidelines of the IMF–World Bank Spring Meetings 2026.
The minister met Tucker Foote, Chief Government Affairs Officer at Mastercard, in Washington, D.C., where both sides discussed expanding digital payments and strengthening financial inclusion in Pakistan.
According to officials, the discussions focused on developing Pakistan’s fintech ecosystem, improving cybersecurity frameworks, and enhancing cross-border financial flows and remittance systems.
Both sides also explored opportunities to promote secure digital transactions and encourage wider adoption of formal financial channels, particularly to support economic stability and transparency.
The meeting comes as Pakistan continues to accelerate reforms aimed at modernizing its financial sector, increasing digital payment adoption, and improving access to banking services for underserved populations.
Officials said the engagement reflects growing cooperation between Pakistan and global payment networks to build a more secure and inclusive digital economy.
