Government College University (GCU) has announced a major reduction in semester fees for several degree programs, cutting fees by up to 60% to make higher education more affordable and encourage admissions in selected departments.
According to the university administration, semester fees in some departments have been reduced from Rs. 68,000 to Rs. 30,000. The revised fee structure will apply to the relevant departments at both the university’s old and new campuses.
The decision was taken in response to relatively low admissions in certain academic disciplines. The fee reduction covers programs including Archaeology, Persian, Urdu, History, and around 10 other subjects.
University officials said the initiative is intended to remove financial barriers for students, promote less-enrolled academic disciplines, and improve access to quality higher education. The administration also expects the lower fee structure to boost admissions in the affected programs.
Faculty members welcomed the decision, saying it would reduce the financial burden on parents and make university education more accessible for deserving students.
The university said the move reflects its commitment to expanding educational opportunities while encouraging students to pursue a wider range of academic fields.
