Google has canceled its standalone AI Studio mobile app before its public release. Instead, the company plans to bring its features directly into Gemini on both mobile and desktop platforms.
The app was never officially launched, but it had already appeared on the Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store for pre-orders. Around 800,000 users pre-ordered the app, showing there was clear interest before its release.
Despite that interest, the Google AI Studio team changed its plans. The team said it decided to take “an entirely different approach” rather than asking users to install another app.
As a result, Google will integrate AI Studio’s features into Gemini. The company has not shared a timeline for when those features will become available.
Google AI Studio is designed to help developers build, test, and deploy AI applications using Gemini models. Because the platform already relies on Gemini, moving its tools into the company’s main AI assistant is not an unexpected step.
The decision also reflects Google’s broader strategy of bringing more AI features under the Gemini brand. Instead of maintaining a separate mobile app, the company will offer the same functionality through its existing AI platform.
Google has a long history of shutting down apps and services, including some that gained a strong user base. This time, however, the company canceled an app before it ever reached the public.
Users who were waiting for the Google AI Studio app will now need to watch for future Gemini updates. Google says the same AI Studio capabilities will arrive there instead.
