The Internet giant Google has been facing allegations of promoting fake news coming from Russia to influence the US presidential elections. Google has now taken measures to make sure fake news is not promoted through its platform.
Google algorithms are not 100 percent accurate which means that sometimes fake and bogus news make it to the search engine indexing. As a result of which, it becomes challenging for the readers to differentiate whether the news is real or fake.
The search engine, Google is trying to ensure that they provide correct news.
Google has updated its News guide for the websites that publish news on it. This news guide includes that the websites can’t hide their country of origin and they cant misrepresent or mislead the news to the news readers. Moreover, these websites can’t hide their information about their ownership and primary goals.
If the website doesn’t follow these guidelines, Google will remove it from appearing on Google News alerts. Google has also allowed the publishers to reports other outlets which are not following the guidelines.
“While we may not take manual action in response to every report, spam reports are prioritized based on user impact, and in some cases may lead to complete removal of a spammy site from Google News results,” Google said.
Google has been trying to overcome these loopholes so that no website can spread the false and fake news to the users.
