Google’s biggest OS update Android O will be released on August 21, a leak claims

Google, at the end of last month, released the final beta version for its upcoming OS update called Android O. Since then rumors have been circulating on social sites regarding the release date of Android O. Similarly, this time too, famous tipster Evan Blass, said, “Android O release scheduled for the week of 8/21, ‘most likely on the 21st itself”.

The new OS will be released with different interesting features such as picture-in-picture or PiP mode, limit background apps, connect with WiFi without an internet access point, lock screen shortcuts, and an upgraded keyboard navigation.

  • Limit background apps: The apps running in the background limit performance and quickly empty battery juice of the mobile. So in order to improve the overall performance and battery timing of a smartphone, Google has added more restrictions and automatic limits to apps running in the background. Restrictions in three main areas, implicit broadcasts, background services, and location updates.
  • Picture-in-picture (PiP) mode: This feature will allow users to browse content or watch videos while chatting with someone via a small window overlayed on the active window.
  • Connect with WiFi: The company has upgraded the WiFi connectivity option in the new OS, which will let devices to connect to each other over WiFi without an internet access point.
  • Upgraded Keyboard navigation: Google said, “In Android O, we focused on building a more reliable, predictable model for “arrow” and “tab” navigation that aids both developers and end users.”
  • Lock screen shortcuts: Google’s new OS will let you customize the lock screen of a smartphone with more shortcuts than Android Nougat.

Moreover, the company is also planning to ship many other updates in Android O which include, fewer notification bombardments, support for autofill APIs, fonts combined with XML, wide-gamut color displays for applications requiring it, customizable icons, and support for latest Java 8 APIs.

The upcoming OS will be the eighth generation of the Android operating system and is likely to ship with Pixel smartphones.
