The federal government has announced a major reduction in the price of high-speed diesel (HSD), while increasing the price of petrol under the latest daily fuel price revision issued by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA).
According to the latest update, the price of petrol has been increased by Rs. 2.97 per litre to Rs. 337.51, while the price of diesel has been reduced by Rs. 32.63 per litre to Rs. 363.06.
The revised rates will remain applicable until Thursday as part of the government’s ongoing daily fuel price adjustment mechanism.
The sharp reduction in diesel prices comes after the fuel had reached Rs. 395.69 per litre on August 18. Meanwhile, petrol was priced at Rs. 334.54 per litre on Tuesday.
The latest revision means diesel has become significantly cheaper for consumers, while petrol prices have continued to rise.
Petrol and Diesel Prices
| Date | Petrol (Rs./Litre) | Diesel (Rs./Litre) |
|---|---|---|
| August 19 | Rs. 337.51 | Rs. 363.06 |
| August 18 | Rs. 334.54 | Rs. 395.69 |
| August 17 | Rs. 331.20 | Rs. 390.42 |
| August 13 | Rs. 325.43 | Rs. 383.95 |
| August 12 | Rs. 324.98 | Rs. 382.79 |
| August 11 | Rs. 325.92 | Rs. 382.25 |
| August 10 | Rs. 327.62 | Rs. 380.86 |
Since the introduction of daily fuel price revisions, petrol has increased by around Rs. 25.21 per litre, while diesel has risen by approximately Rs. 33.55 per litre compared with the rates before the daily pricing mechanism.
The latest diesel reduction is expected to provide some relief to consumers and businesses that rely heavily on diesel-powered vehicles and machinery.
However, the increase in petrol prices means motorists using petrol vehicles will continue to face higher fuel costs.
The government is expected to continue monitoring international oil prices and other market factors as part of its daily fuel price adjustment process.
