The federal government has removed the five-liter petrol purchase limit under its fuel relief scheme, allowing beneficiaries to receive the weekly Rs. 500 discount even when purchasing less than five liters of petrol.
Federal Minister for Information Technology Shaza Fatima announced the changes at a press conference, saying the government had introduced three major measures to make the relief scheme more accessible amid rising global oil prices and regional tensions.
Under the revised rules, all motorcycles and three-wheelers registered on or after January 1, 2006, are eligible for registration. The government has also removed the five-liter limit linked to each fuel token and made registration SMS messages free.
Fatima said 91.6% of registrations under the scheme are for two- and three-wheelers, while vehicles up to 800cc account for 8.4%.
According to the minister, 1,493,848 fuel tokens have been issued so far, while 655,067 citizens have already received fuel. She added that the implementation committee is meeting three times a day, while Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is monitoring the scheme and directing officials to resolve implementation issues.
The government has also removed all charges associated with the relief program. Citizens have been advised not to share their CNIC numbers or vehicle registration details with unauthorized individuals and to report anyone demanding payment for the service.
To register, citizens can send an SMS to 9771 containing their 13-digit CNIC number, the first word of their province, and vehicle registration details. Complaints related to petrol pumps can also be submitted through the designated helplines.
The minister said the registration process has been simplified to help more citizens benefit from the scheme. The government is also providing Rs. 100 per liter in relief for vehicles up to 800cc under the program.
