The federal government has announced plans to establish a dedicated University Town in Islamabad under the upcoming Islamabad Vision 2027, aiming to provide international-standard higher education facilities for students from across Pakistan. The initiative was unveiled by Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi during a ceremony at Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU).
Speaking at the event, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said the proposed University Town would be designed as a modern academic hub, featuring advanced teaching, research, and residential facilities aligned with global standards. He said the project is intended to attract students from all provinces and strengthen Islamabad’s role as a national education center.
“This concept will redefine higher education in the federal capital and provide a complete academic ecosystem for students,” the minister said, adding that the plan will be formally announced soon.
The University Town project is part of the broader Islamabad Vision 2027, a long-term development framework focusing on sustainable urban growth, infrastructure improvement, and education-driven development. Higher education has been identified as a key pillar in shaping the city’s future.
Highlighting the importance of Quaid-i-Azam University, Mohsin Naqvi said Islamabad’s academic identity is incomplete without the institution. He expressed dissatisfaction over the current entrance of QAU, stating it does not reflect the university’s stature.
He announced that the Capital Development Authority (CDA) will be directed to redesign and beautify the main entrance. Additionally, the existing auditorium will be upgraded into a state of the art facility to meet modern academic and event requirements.
Addressing concerns over public land, the interior minister reiterated the government’s zero-tolerance policy on encroachments. He said any illegal constructions found within QAU’s 1,709-acre land would be removed, urging occupants to vacate voluntarily.
The minister also reaffirmed that the Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme remains a priority, underlining the government’s commitment to supporting students and strengthening digital access in higher education.
