A Reddit user believes they found the entire Grand Theft Auto VI map hiding in plain sight inside GTA Online.
The discovery, posted by u/JaneBunnFan, shows what appears to be a faint outline of Vice City embedded in a background texture. When flipped 180 degrees, the image bears a striking resemblance to the fan-built State of Leonida mapping project that the community has refined over three years.
GTA Online has helped GTA V make over $10 billion since it was released in 2013, making it the most profitable entertainment product in history. Rockstar has a well-documented history of planting Easter eggs in GTA Online ahead of major releases. Using that platform to tease its successor would fit the pattern perfectly.
The comparison is compelling, but could not be far from confirmed, sadly for the excited fans. The image looks like little more than a bark rubbing, and the GTA community has a long track record of seeing maps where none exist. But the Leonida mapping project gives this discovery more weight than most.
The community-driven effort has spent years assembling every trailer frame, screenshot, and leaked coordinate into a comprehensive top-down map. Community analysis of the trailers suggests around 125 square kilometers of land. That estimate covers urban coastline, wetlands, highlands, and an island archipelago. When the Reddit image is rotated and overlaid, the contours align in ways that are hard to dismiss.
Insiders like NateTheHate hint that Rockstar could give a more complete look at Leonida in August, potentially through a third trailer ahead of Take-Two Interactive’s August 7 earnings call. That earnings call is itself unusual. Take-Two traditionally holds its earnings calls after the market closes. This time, the company scheduled it before the market opens, fueling intense speculation that Rockstar will drop something massive right before the briefing.
Backend changes on the official GTA 6 website reinforce the theory as fans recently discovered massive backend modifications. The last time developers implemented identical shifts, game pre-orders went live shortly after. Proven industry leaker NateTheHate stated on X that fans will see “a fair bit” of the game this month.
Not everyone is on board the bandwagon that Rockstar dropped a major hint like that:
Isn’t this from like a decade ago? This is not a new painting, pretty sure this existed before GTA VI went into production

What we know about GTA VI itself is now substantial. Pre-orders went live on June 25 with the Standard Edition at $79.99 and the Ultimate Edition at $99.99. Every pre-order includes the Vice City Vintage Pack: classic cars, retro outfits, and a Tommy Vercetti-inspired weapon skin. Players step into the roles of Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, a criminal couple at the heart of the story. The game launches exclusively on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19, 2026. No PC version has been announced at launch.
The Xbox Store leaked file structures showing modular install categories. A base game file sits alongside four separate downloadable components. This setup implies GTA 6 Online could launch as free-to-play rather than a paid add-on. Rockstar would bank on microtransaction revenue instead.
Whether Rockstar intentionally embedded the Vice City layout in GTA Online or the community is pattern-matching against ambiguous textures remains unclear. However, with Take-Two’s earnings call two days away, website backend changes detected, and multiple insiders promising a “fair bit” of new content this month, the map discovery could be the first ripple of a much larger wave.
