Grand Theft Auto (GTA) V holds countless secrets and Easter eggs. However, a recent discovery points to a completely different Rockstar project. Data miners found a hidden character model inside the leaked GTA V source code. This model links directly to a cancelled stealth-action game called ‘Agent’.
The Secret “Player” Model
Back in 2023, the Grand Theft Auto (GTA) V source code leaked online. Fans spent years digging through the files. Eventually, they uncovered a mysterious character model simply named “player“. At first glance, the model slightly resembles Niko Bellic from Grand Theft Auto IV. However, it clearly depicts someone else.
Following an investigation, fans matched the model to leaked 2011 artist screenshots of Agent. Rockstar North originally announced Agent in 2009 as a PlayStation 3 exclusive. Developers envisioned it as a stealth-action game. The project took many forms during development. For instance, one iteration featured a Cold War setting. Ultimately, developers felt the game was not working out. They cancelled the project. Furthermore, while Rockstar is famous for franchises like Red Dead Redemption, Bully, and Manhunt, Agent will unfortunately never see a full release.
Rockstar’s canceled game Agent protagonist may have been found in the GTAV source code leak.
GTAForums user XanaBax did a deep dive into the character model, it matches the 2011 leaked screenshots, and the main hierarchy node is named “player”

Why is Agent in GTA V Source Code?
Fans have proposed several theories explaining the model’s presence in the game files. First, Rockstar might have planned a scrapped side mission. This mission could have featured a delusional Los Santos resident acting like a super spy and roping a main character into a mission. Second, developers might have intended to use the character’s image as a subtle Easter egg on an in-game DVD cover or movie poster. Finally, the most obvious answer is simple. A bored developer probably dropped the model into the files just to have a bit of fun.
Regardless of the reason, this discovery serves as a fascinating reminder of Rockstar’s forgotten history.
