The Chinese phone maker Huawei has crossed Apple in terms of quarterly smartphone shipment. Huawei now moves to second place after Samsung as the biggest smartphone manufacturer in the world.
According to the data released by the International Data Corporation (IDC), Huawei’s smartphones shipments in the Q2 of 2018 reached from 41% to 54.2 million units, from 38.5 million during the same period of 2017. To reach the second top position, Huawei expanded its sales not only in its home market but also in other big economies, with quality cameras increasing the reputation of the brand.
Huawei’s market share now reached a record 15.8% in this quarter, a sharp jump from 11.0% in 2017. Apple shipped 41.3 million iPhones in the second quarter of this year as compared to 41 million smartphones last year. The difference is clear that means the Cupertino giant managed only a 0.7% increase.
Ryan Reith, program Vice President with IDC’s worldwide mobile device trackers said, “The continued growth of Huawei is impressive, to say the least, as is its ability to move into markets where, until recently, the brand was largely unknown.”
Samsung retaining the title of top smartphone manufacturer sold 71.5 million units and took 20.9% of the global market share, despite a 10.4% drop in shipment last year. Moreover, the Galaxy S9 and S9+ had a slower sales rate as compared to the S8 and S8+. Samsung’s next flagship Note 9 is going to be announced soon and is expecting it to boost the sales of Korean giant. Meanwhile, Apple is also going to release new iPhone models this fall which might give a handsome revenue to US giant.
