Huawei could launch its next thin smartphone, the Mate 80 Air, next month, according to a new leak. The device will follow the Mate 70 Air, which arrived around a year ago.
A source on Weibo claims the Mate 80 Air will make its debut in December. However, Huawei may announce it separately from the MatePad Mini 2. The tablet could also arrive in December, despite earlier reports pointing to a November launch. It is expected to run HarmonyOS 7 out of the box.
Details about the Mate 80 Air have also started to emerge. Another tipster recently claimed the phone will come with at least 12GB of RAM. It will also retain the circular camera island found on its predecessor.
Meanwhile, an earlier leak suggested the new model would still lack 3D face recognition. This could disappoint users expecting a major upgrade to the phone’s security features.
The Mate 70 Air measures just 6.6mm in thickness, making its slim design one of its biggest selling points. Some reports suggest Huawei could make its successor even thinner. However, the final dimensions remain unknown.
The Mate 80 Air is also rumored to feature the Kirin 9030 chipset and a curved display. Huawei has yet to confirm these details or announce an official launch date.
