Instagram has rolled out a new feature for user profiles. It now lets people add posts they are tagged in to their grid. Consequently, users gain more collaboration and presentation options. The update aims to strengthen the app’s community focus directly.
The feature works simply and directly within the app. When viewing a tagged post, creators see a new option. This “Add to grid” button places the post on their profile. Notably, these tagged posts display a small tag icon. That icon sits in the thumbnail’s top right corner.
This gives users fresh ways to amplify content to followers. Essentially, it helps creators showcase collaborations more prominently. Therefore, brand partnerships and joint content gain better visibility. The move builds on Instagram’s steady profile customization push.
That push has accelerated notably over the past year. In June 2026, Instagram launched a long-awaited grid reordering feature. This let users rearrange profile posts through simple drag-and-drop. Previously, posts appeared strictly in reverse-chronological order only. Users could merely pin up to three posts at the top.
Instagram head Adam Mosseri marked that launch with one word: “Finally.” The company framed it around reducing pressure to post. It also encouraged users to shape more intentional profiles. This new tagged-posts option extends that same underlying philosophy.
The platform has added several collaboration tools previously too. These include post collaborators and collaborative Stories features. It also introduced the ability to remix publicly shared photos. However, Instagram quickly removed one AI-powered remix option earlier.
The feature reflects Instagram’s clear focus on community interaction. Importantly, users come to Instagram to connect with each other. However, that consumption increasingly dominates actual user behavior. Reports suggest Reels now account for roughly 50% of Instagram time.
If Instagram competes only on video, its rivals multiply. It would face TikTok, YouTube, Netflix, and countless other options. Therefore, community features become vital for retaining users. Ultimately, this small update serves that larger strategic goal.
