Apple’s next big iPhone update appears to be shifting gears. While iOS 26 made headlines for its flashy Liquid Glass interface, iOS 27 is shaping up to be a quieter but far more meaningful release focused on performance and artificial intelligence.
Mark Gurman at Bloomberg reports that Apple is now prioritizing stability after a year of major visual changes. He notes that iOS 27 will center on quality improvements, faster core system performance, and fixes for long-standing bugs. Apple is said to be investing more engineering time into tightening the platform rather than redesigning it.
Alongside these upgrades, Apple is preparing a new wave of AI features. Gurman says the company plans to expand AI across more native apps in iOS 27. The update may introduce a health-focused AI agent, smarter web search powered by AI, and deeper intelligence tools across the system. Apple is also working on a full-fledged AI chatbot named Veritas, which could significantly boost Siri’s capabilities.
These upgrades will not be limited to iPhones. macOS 27 is expected to receive the same performance push and AI expansion. According to the report, Apple plans to release the first beta versions of both iOS 27 and macOS 27 in June next year.
