Islamabad Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon has announced the date of a strict new rule for the federal capital. Starting January 1, 2026, authorities will not allow vehicles without an M-Tag to enter the city.
The administration advised citizens to register their vehicles immediately. This proactive step helps drivers avoid unnecessary inconvenience at city entry points.
The restriction comes into full force on January 1, 2026. After this date, security teams at checkpoints will take action against any vehicle lacking an M-Tag.
Furthermore, the administration is currently installing M-Tag readers at all entry points. This installation is partially complete. Enforcement will begin strictly once the system becomes fully operational.
To facilitate this transition, the administration currently operates 16 M-Tag registration centres across Islamabad. DC Memon requested citizens to visit these centres promptly.
According to district officials, this move improves security and streamlines traffic management. The data reflects a rush for compliance. Authorities have issued M-Tags to 95,369 vehicles total. In the last 24 hours alone, 1,235 vehicles received their tags.
