In a significant move to reclaim public land and restore traffic flow, Islamabad authorities carried out a major anti-encroachment operation along GT Road today. The drive specifically targeted illegal construction material sale points encroaching on the city’s green belt.
The operation, led by the Assistant Commissioner in coordination with the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Administration, aimed to clear the Right of Way (ROW) and remove unauthorised vendors occupying public land. Police arrested 11 individuals during the action and seized construction materials along with trucks, which were transported to a nearby police station for further legal proceedings.
Officials emphasized that this initiative is part of a broader campaign by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and ICT Administration to remove encroachments across Islamabad.
“We are committed to restoring public spaces and ensuring the smooth flow of traffic along major roads,” said an ICT official. Residents have welcomed the operation, noting it will improve accessibility and preserve the city’s green belts.
Illegal encroachments along GT Road have long disrupted traffic and violated urban planning regulations. The CDA had previously warned landowners and suppliers involved in these activities about strict penalties. Authorities have pledged to continue the campaign until all unauthorised structures and sale points along major routes are removed, ensuring Islamabad remains orderly and environmentally conscious.
