Islamabad to Get Two New Avenues to Ease Traffic Pressure

Published by

Islamabad is set to get two new major road arteries, as city authorities have decided to revive the stalled 10th Avenue project and move ahead with the construction of 11th Avenue to manage an expected surge in traffic.

The decision comes as the Capital Development Authority (CDA) moves closer to completing a new road linking Margalla Road with Motorway M-1, which will eventually connect to the Rawalpindi Ring Road. Officials anticipate significant traffic pressure on Margalla Road once the new link becomes operational.

According to the CDA, the tender process for the Margalla Road–M-1 link is currently being finalized. To prevent congestion, authorities plan to develop 10th and 11th avenues as alternative routes to accommodate increased traffic entering Islamabad from Margalla Avenue, Srinagar Highway, and other connecting roads.

CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa, while chairing a meeting, emphasized the importance of proactive planning as new regional road links come online. He stated that completing missing road links under Islamabad’s master plan would significantly improve traffic flow across the capital.

The chairman also directed relevant departments to ensure that Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) are completed on time for all future infrastructure projects before construction begins.
