IT Ministry Confirms Islamabad IT Park Completion by December

The National Assembly Standing Committee on Information Technology held a session today to review progress on Pakistan’s flagship IT infrastructure projects, with particular focus on the Islamabad IT Park. The meeting was chaired by Syed Amin Ul Haque.

Officials from the Ministry of IT provided a briefing on the Islamabad and Karachi IT Parks. They reported that construction of the Islamabad IT Park is in its final stages. Work on the project, which began in 2017, is expected to be completed by December 31, 2025.

“The Islamabad IT Park will be completed in 2025,” the chairman said, highlighting the long-term efforts invested in the project.

However, the briefing on the Karachi IT Park drew strong criticism. “Secretary IT, what is going on? Expedite the work,” the chairman demanded, stressing the urgency. “Regretfully, we have wasted one year,” he added.

The chairman compared the project’s slow pace with other government initiatives, saying, “Our Interior Minister can build an underpass in three months.”

Officials also revealed that a delegation from EXIM Bank is scheduled to visit Pakistan on December 2.

“Make every effort to push this project forward and award the contract,” said the chairman. He also emphasized the importance of international collaboration, noting, “Include the Korean Embassy as well.”

Even after the contract is awarded, the chairman noted that completion will take an additional two years. “Work on the Karachi IT Park should start as soon as possible,” he said, signaling an urgent need to accelerate the project.
