Japan has reinforced its economic partnership with Pakistan, announcing significant investments in the automotive sector that have already created over 100,000 jobs and boosted local supply chains. The announcement came during the Japan-Pakistan Business Seminar 2026 held at Serena Hotel, Islamabad, highlighting the growing industrial collaboration between the two nations.
Hosted by Japanese Ambassador Akamatsu Shuichi, the seminar brought together government officials, business leaders, academics, and representatives from Japanese organizations including JICA, JETRO, and the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Pakistan. Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Industries & Production, Haroon Akhtar Khan, attended as the chief guest.
Ambassador Akamatsu emphasized Japan’s ongoing role in Pakistan’s economy:
“Japanese automotive companies have not only created jobs but also established local supply chains with over 60% parts localization. Our investments in new technologies will continue to drive industrial growth while reducing environmental impact.”
Haroon Akhtar Khan expressed appreciation for Japan’s support and stressed the importance of deepening bilateral business ties.
The seminar featured two main sessions:
- Session 1: Focused on Japan’s economic growth and lessons for Pakistan. Panelists highlighted the Japanese emphasis on long-term investment, education, and sustainable development, offering strategies for Pakistan’s industrial progress.
- Session 2: Concentrated on the automotive sector, with Japanese companies and local suppliers discussing mass production, quality enhancement, employee training through Kaizen and 5S methodologies, and advancements in hybrid vehicles, biogas fuel, and vehicle safety standards.
The discussions reinforced Japan’s commitment to nurturing Pakistan’s industrial and technological capabilities, particularly in automotive innovation and workforce development.
The seminar highlighted the potential for future collaboration in green technologies, local supplier development, and sustainable industrial practices, marking a promising step in Pakistan-Japan economic relations.
