Karachi Extends Motor Cab Rickshaw Ban on 25 Major Roads Until February 2026
Karachi authorities have extended the ban on motor cab rickshaws across 25 major city roads for two more months to reduce traffic congestion. The decision aims to ensure smoother traffic flow and enhance road safety across key urban arteries.
The Commissioner of Karachi issued a notification under Section 144, confirming that the restriction will remain effective until February 21, 2026. The move follows recommendations from the traffic police to manage mounting traffic pressure and minimize accident risks in the metropolis.
Under the extension, 1+2 and 1+4 motor cab rickshaws are prohibited from operating on main roads, including Shahrah-e-Faisal, I.I. Chundrigar Road, Shahrah-e-Quaideen, Sher Shah Suri Road, Shaheed-e-Millat Road, and Abdullah Haroon Road up to Do Talwar. Other affected routes include Shahrah-e-Firdousi, Stadium Road, Sir Shah Suleman Road, and Rashid Minhas Road.
The restriction further covers Mauripur Road, Shahrah-e-Pakistan, Hub Road, Qaidabad to Landhi 89, University Road, Korangi Road from Qayyumabad to Korangi Crossing, Orangi Road, Super Highway to Malir Halt, and the Surjani to Sohrab Goth stretch.
Authorities have warned violators will face strict action, with police empowered to register cases under Section 144 to ensure compliance.
