Karachi Industrial Zones to Receive Rs. 9.28 Billion for Road Projects
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has approved Rs. 9.282 billion for immediate road repairs and infrastructure development in Karachi’s industrial zones. The funding aims to address critical maintenance needs and improve basic facilities for businesses operating in the city’s key industrial areas.
Funding Distribution Across Industrial Zones
During a meeting with representatives of major industrial associations, officials reviewed ongoing infrastructure issues and finalized a development plan. Under the approved package, allocations include Rs. 2 billion for SITE, Rs. 700 million for SITE Superhighway, Rs. 721.74 million for North Karachi, Rs. 860.55 million for F.B. Area, Rs. 2 billion each for Landhi and Korangi, and Rs. 1 billion for Bin Qasim, covering the Pakistan Tanners Association as well.
The plan’s first phase focuses on urgent repair and maintenance, with the Karachi commissioner leading consultations to ensure fair and need-based distribution of funds.
Implementation and Funding Source
The Chief Minister confirmed that the project will be financed through the Infrastructure Development Cess collected by the Excise and Taxation Department. Industrial representatives requested the funds be released via a grant-in-aid mechanism to expedite execution instead of the usual Annual Development Programme route.
