The Lahore Traffic Police have imposed a ban on the entry of commercial vehicles whose drivers do not possess valid driving licences or whose vehicles lack mandatory fitness certificates, as authorities intensify efforts to improve road safety and enforce traffic regulations.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore, Syed Abdul Raheem Shirazi, said only commercial vehicles operated by licensed drivers will be allowed to enter the city. The move is part of a broader crackdown targeting traffic violations and unsafe commercial transport operations.
Under the new directives, strict action will also be taken against commercial vehicles operating without functional front and rear lights, using high beams improperly, or running without valid fitness certificates.
Authorities have further prohibited loader tractor-trolleys carrying sand, soil, or other materials from using roads without proper tarpaulin covers. Violators will face immediate legal action.
To ensure compliance, Lahore Traffic Police have launched a citywide checking campaign and general hold-up operations at major entry and exit points. Senior officers, including SPs and DSPs, have been directed to personally supervise enforcement activities.
Officials said the initiative is aimed at reducing road accidents, improving traffic discipline, and ensuring commercial vehicles meet safety standards before entering the provincial capital.
The CTO reiterated that Lahore Traffic Police have adopted a zero-tolerance policy toward traffic violations and urged commercial drivers to carry all required documents, including driving licences and fitness certificates, to avoid penalties during inspections.
