LDI Companies Begin Clearing Dues as Telecom Tribunal Formation Nears

The National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Information Technology, chaired by Syed Amin Ul Haque, met today to address long-pending payments from LDI operators. PTA representatives also attended the session, highlighting industry concerns. Officials confirmed that one LDI company has now cleared its outstanding dues, marking the first significant breakthrough in a recovery process that has dragged on for years.

“A PTA member said, “One LDI company has cleared its outstanding dues.” He added that discussions with another operator were still underway. “Talks are ongoing with another LDI company regarding payment of dues,” he said. He also confirmed that cases involving other firms were currently in court.

Committee members noted that these repayments could speed up once the new Telecom Tribunal becomes operational. Law Ministry officials told the committee that the summary for appointing the tribunal’s chairman and members had been sent forward. They also said the appointments would be completed soon.

The committee chairman shared his long wait for the tribunal’s formation. “I have been dreaming of this tribunal since 2019,” he said.

IT Ministry officials argued that the tribunal would help resolve chronic payment disputes faster. The chairman praised the subcommittee for its work on LDI issues, noting that it “had performed very well regarding LDI matters.” He also urged the authorities to ensure no new dues emerge. “No further outstanding dues should arise,” he said. He added that he hopes the tribunal starts functioning soon.
