A reputable Xbox insider shared this key information regarding the project’s core gameplay. Furthermore, a recent Bloomberg report backed up these development shifts. He stated that Obsidian is moving its focus entirely to a new Fallout project. Fortunately, Fallout: New Vegas director Josh Sawyer will helm the game.
A True, Modern Fallout Experience
Fans of the classic top-down perspective will need to adjust their expectations. According to notable Xbox insider Jez Corden on the Xbox Two podcast, Obsidian’s upcoming Fallout game will not be isometric. Instead, it will deliver a modern-style gameplay experience.
Corden clarified that he has not heard anything about the project being a spin-off or a Tactics-style game. Corden stated:
I’ve heard this is a true, core Fallout game.
Consequently, players can expect a first-person RPG format similar to Bethesda’s recent entries. The developer is actively moving away from the point-and-click style of early Fallout titles or its own Pillars of Eternity series.
However, the exact title of the game remains a complete mystery. Currently, we do not know if this project is Fallout: New Vegas 2, Fallout 5, or a completely standalone entry.
